August Alsina reveals why he made his affair with Jada Pinkett-Smith public

August Alsina is speaking out about why he chose to reveal his bombshell affair with Jada Pinkett-Smith, which lead to the actress having a tell-all discussion with husband Will Smith on her Red Table Talk series in July.

Jada, 48, confessed to the affair with 27-year-old musician August as she sat across from Will, 51, who probed her into admitting that it was a full-blown relationship, rather than an ‘entanglement’ as she tried to describe it.

However, August has claimed in a new interview with PEOPLE that his friendship with the super couple ‘isn’t broken’ saying there is ‘a lot of love there’ and has explained that he came forward with the story because it had started to affect ‘business relationships’ in his career as a singer.

‘I never really cared about what people thought of me, but my personal life started to seep into my business life,’ he tells the outlet. ‘There were certain falsities about me, and it affected my business relationships.’

‘I could understand why it would look like I’m reckless or disrespectful so it really started to affect my livelihood, and I’m never okay with that,’ he adds. ‘I got three kids to look after. Kill me, hate me, stone me, but bury me an honest man. All I can do is tell the truth.’

August is referring to his three nieces Chaylin, 14, Amaiya, 13, and Kayden, 11, who he became the legal guardian of after their father (August’s brother Melvin) was shot dead in 2010, and their mother Chandra died of cancer in 2018 on Christmas Day.

The singer adds in the interview that he never meant to ’cause trouble’ for the Smiths and claims his relationship with them ‘isn’t broken.’

‘There’s a lot of love there. Sometimes truth is complicated and difficult. But [my relationship with them isn’t] broken at all,’ he says.

He has caused further controversy for himself since the revelation, by releasing a single called ‘Entanglements’ an obvious nod to Jada’s choice of words for their relationship.

But he explains in the interview that the single was ‘nothing personal’ and just a business move for him, as he is eager to look after his nieces – or his ‘naughters’ as he calls them affectionately.

August say is now single and concentrating on healing after the whole experience with Jada.

‘I’ve spent a lot of time in a relationship. It’s like the first time you’re back on your own type thing. There’s been a lot of rebuilding within myself, a lot of healing within myself that has had to happen. But I’m very okay,’ he explains.

In her own words, Jada explained she met August through their son Jaden, 22, and recalled the singer, who would have been 23 at the time, was ‘really sick’.

Jada said: ‘And it all started with him just needing some help, me wanting to help his health, his mental state.

‘The outpouring for him from our family was initially about his health,’ she said. ‘We found all those different resources to help pull him through and from there you and I were going through a very difficult time.’

Following Jada’s confession Will admitted: ‘I was done with you,’ while Jada added that they decided to separate for a ‘period of time’.
