Dance superstar Marshmello has been slapped with legal action over allegations suggesting he plagiarised his Bastille collaboration, “Happier”.
Artem Stoliarov, also known as Arty, claims Marshmello’s summer 2018 hit is a rip off of his 2014 remix to OneRepublic’s “I Lived”.
In legal papers obtained by TMZ, the plaintiff argues 19 out of 20 notes in the DJ’s four-bar synthesizer for “Happier” is identical to Arty’s track, which he believes Marshmello first heard him play live at one of his old shows.
“Happier” has since racked up 335 million streams on YouTube, compared to the four million the I Lived remix has received in the five years since its release, and Arty is now suing for copyright infringement and other damages.
Marshmello has yet to comment on the allegations.
