The Infinity Saga comes to a close after 22 films and 11 years with Avengers: Endgame finally hitting cinemas this week.
And judging by the reactions after the world premiere in Los Angeles, Marvel fans are in for a treat. Reaction to Endgame from critics and fans lucky enough to see the first screening of Endgame have been overwhelmingly positive, with the blockbuster even being called the ‘greatest superhero movie ever’.
Reviews are still under embargo, but those who watched the premiere shared their spoiler-free thoughts on Endgame to social media immediately after the film. Mashable’s Angie J Han called it an ‘immensely satisfying payoff’, while The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez called it an ‘epic ending to the Infinity Saga’.
Gizmodo’s Germain Lussier said the blockbuster has a ‘few hiccups’ and also criticised the three-hour runtime, but called it ‘the ultimate gift to fans of the MCU’. Slash Film’s Peter Sciretta said it surpassed all expectations, while film critic Scott Mantz even went as far to call Endgame the ‘greatest superhero movie ever’.
There were also a lot of tweets saying Endgame caused a lot of tears so… prepare to be super dehydrated, we guess.
Endgame picks up after the events of Infinity War, where Thanos snapped his fingers after acquiring the Infinity Stones and wiped out half the universe.
Captain Marvel joins the remaining heroes in a quest to reverse the snap – but will the dusted ever return, and who will make it out alive?
It is predicted this could be the final MCU outing for Captain America, or Chris Evans, as his contract is up, along with Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man).
Old and new faces were on the purple carpet for the premiere in LA last night, with Brie Larson, aka Captain Marvel, joining her MCU brethren for the screening.
Despite being dusted in Infinity War, Chris Pratt, aka Star-Lord, made his red carpet debut with Katherine Schwarznegger, while Benedict Cumberbatch, playing the equally decimated Doctor Strange, attended with wife Sophie Hunter.
