Monday - Fridays 10am - 2pm (THE BURN)
Toni “Hurricane” Hinkson’s journey to become one of Barbados’ leading female disc jockeys began just eight years ago.
Her entry into the world of live deejay performance came when she was discovered by Peter Coppin of Monstapiece. For several years she was the sole female deejay of the popular sound system and soon became known for her totally hyped, high energy performances.
In 2001, she formed the first female sound system in Barbados- Third Dimension Sound sending shock waves throughout the island. With their attractive and dynamic stage presence, Third Dimension Sounds began to grace the stage with the who’s who of Caribbean entertainment at Lady Marmalade and Wet Fete in St. Lucia and the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica.
As Hurricane’s popularity increased so did her weekly performances and juggling between her full time job as an accounts supervisor with a leading insurance company and her desire to remain current at the top of her game soon began to take its toll. Driven by her love of music, Hurricane boldly resigned from her job in December, 2004 and started work as an announcer on 98.1FM The One the following month.
Hurricane works the mid-morning shift locking listeners onto her “ Burn” programme with her sexy voice and smooth mixes. She has secured herself with numerous dub plates and interviews with the likes of Fat Jo, Junior Kelly, Morgan Heritage, T.O.K, Chuck Fenda, Assassin and Freddie McGregor.
